Some useful and inexpensive personal security products

Personal Security Products

There are quite a number of personal security products that don’t cost very much that can be used to increase your personal safety.  In this article, we’ll take a look at just a few.

Mace pepper spray is one of the first personal security products that comes to mind.  This product is relatively inexpensive yet effective.  You can spray mace in someone’s face from a distance — 8 feet or more, so you won’t have to wait until they get there hands on you to use it.  And it will stop an attacker in their tracks — Mace pepper spray causes intense burning of the eyes and swelling of the mucous membranes which causes coughing and choking.  Mace pepper spray is available in a variety of sizes, some small enough to easily carry in a pocket or purse.  You might want to get several sizes so you always have some handy — put one in your car, one near the door(s) in your home, and carry one in your pocket or purse.

Another item in our list of personal security products that are useful yet inexpensive is the stun gun.  These devices are a last line of defense, as they require personal contact with your attacker to work.  But they will drop an attacker quickly to their knees.  Stun guns work by emitting a series of high voltage electrical pulses, which interfere with the body’s nervous system, causing uncontrollable spasms which tire your attacker quickly.  They’re available in all sizes and shapes — some are small and portable while others are large and designed for a show of force.  You can even get a stun gun that is disguised as a cell phone or a flashlight.

Personal alarms are also useful personal security products that are relatively inexpensive.  These devices are designed to sound a loud (20dB or so) alarm when activated.  They are designed to scare your attacker away by drawing attention to the situation.  Some even include a bright flashing light to draw even more attention at night.  These devices are small and easy to carry, yet produce an ear-splitting sound.  You can get devices that combine a personal alarm with mace pepper spray, making for a very effective one-two punch that will deal quickly with an attacker.  Between the effects of the mace and the sound of the alarm, you are certain to gain time to flee and start screaming for help.

Next on our list of personal security products is the safety light.  These lights are designed to attract attention if your car breaks down, or provide you with enough light to see to change a tire at night.  Devices are available that you can wear like a pager or on a wrist band on your arm, which is ideal for bike riders and joggers — they make sure motorists can see you.  These safety lights are also inexpensive, and make a good investment in your personal security.
